Governor signs Sindh Local Government (second amendment) Ordinance, 2010

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan promulgated on Tuesday Sindh Local Government (second amendment) Ordinance, 2010.

The Governor promulgated the ordinance, amending further sub-section 3 of Section 179-A of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001, which reads: "In the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001, in section 179-A, for Sub-section (3), the following shall be substituted. The Government shall appoint administrators from amongst the civil servants including employees of local government department, Government of Sindh and officers of Sindh Councils Unified Grades, who shall perform the functions and exercise the powers of the Nazims of respective local governments, till the newly elected Nazims take oath of their offices.

"Provided that the administrators shall be appointed from amongst the officers in basic scale 19 and above in the case of district governments and in basic scale 17, 18 and above in the case of Taluka and Town administrations."

"Provided further that Government may, in the public interest, transfer any administrator or proceed against him on account of misconduct and appoint another officer in his place."

Meanwhile, before promulgating the ordinance, the governor chaired a meeting on the affairs of the local government. The provincial ministers belonging to the coalition parties and senior government officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that the appointment of administrators would be announced shortly and they would ensure that the process of progress and development should continue and people continue to get civic facilities.

The governor praised the coalition parties for resolving the issue of local government with reconciliation and mutual understanding. He said that it was a guarantee for future development and prosperity of the province.

He said that all suspicions and apprehensions in this regard proved incorrect and vowed that the spirit of reconciliation would be ensured at every stage.
